What is Google Chrome Netbook?

Cheap Netbooks - What is a Google Chrome Netbook?

Google Chrome netbooks - what are they and why all the fuss? First things first, you won't be able to buy one for this Christmas as they are still in beta and Chrome netbooks for the public are not expected until early 2011, so if you are looking for a netbook for Christmas then check out here netbook for Christmas or you can directly check out one of the top selling netbooks on Amazon.

So what is Google Chrome ? Chrome is an operating system that is based on Linux, but it does not operate like Windows - as it is in fact a Web browser that boots your PC. So instead of botting up your PC then clicking on a browser to get on the Internet, a Chrome netbok will boot up directly with an Internet browser and get you straight onto the Internet.

You can't install software on a Chrome netbook, but like a machine with an iPhone / iPad app functionality, Chrome netbooks will extend the functionality via Chrome apps. The result should be a faster experience, optimized for people who use their netbooks on the go and get their programs from the 'cloud' i.e. the Internet.

The Chrome netbook appears to be somewhere between a Windows or Linux-based device, and tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab or Apple iPad. It should look like a traditional netbook, with the instant-on, browser-centric apps environment of a tablet.

What most people are interested in of course is how much a Chrome netbook will cost and whether there will be a monthly fee associated with the use of a specific wireless carrier to provide mobile Web access. At the moment you can get the cheaper netbooks for less than $200 and browse the web for free. Google will need to make the price attractive if it is to entice customers into their web.

If you have come here by chance and were in fact looking for a netbook for the kids this Christmas then check out these two from Dell and Disney - netbooks for kids or get more info. from Amazon on the Disney Netpal by ASUS

Netbook for Christmas

Netbooks for Christmas - Asus EEE PC 1001P

A netbook for Christmas could be a very good idea for a gift if you are willing to spend around $300 - or less in some cases. After the Kindle - Latest Generation Amazon Kindle - which is the No. 1 best-selling electronic product on Amazon - netbooks are very much in demand.

Asus Eee PC 1001-P White
The Asus Eee PC 1001P-PU17 Seashell NetboksAsus Eee PC 1001P - with Windows 7 Starter and 10.1-inch screen is a very good offering for people on the go as it has excellent wireless connectivity and efficient performance and the price is a not too wallet emptying $299.

It is also very eye-catching with its lattice-work shell. More importantly perhaps you get 11 hours battery life thanks to the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine and the new Intel Atom N450 processor.

It is also very comfortable to use thanks to its large palm rest, and multi-touch trackpad.

It 250GB Hard Disk offers plenty of storage and its 1GB system memory is adequate but can be upgraded to 2GB (you can never have too much memory - but immense hard disks are not necessary).

It is sold with Windows 7 Starter but if possible you would be better getting ithis upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium (check and get it done before you buy if possible for the extra $50). It is also fitted with an integrated webcam and microphone for chatting if you are the chatty type !

Asus Netbook with Windows 7

Netbook with Windows 7 Asus Eee PC 1015PN

Netbooks with Windows 7 installed are ten a penny, so if you are looking for a netbook and you absolutely need one running Windows 7 then you have a choice between the starter version or a netbook running Windows 7 Home premium. Most people believe that you are actually far better off with Windows 7 Home Premium, the only slight problem is that it will cost you around $50 extra and given that netbooks are suposed to be cheap, anything that pushes the price up is a bit of a contradiction.
Asus Eee PC 1015PN with Windows 7
The new Asus Eee PC 1015PN Netbook with 1.5 GHz Dual Core Intel Atom N550 Processor which is possibly one of the best netbooks currently available, is advertised running both the starter and the Home premium version, but if you don't specify which you want you will probably get the sstater version by default. So make sure you specify that you want the Home Preium version before you part with any cash  - if you can afford it.

According to Asus the Eee PC1015PN is a major change from other netbooks. Most netbooks installa a single core Atom processor. The Eee PC1015PN on the other hand has a Intel Atom N550 dual core processor, which delivers speeds 23% faster at least than single core processor netbooks (according to Asus again).

Fast Netbooks Asus Lamborghini VX6

Fast Netbooks - Asus Lamborghini VX6

The Asus Lamborghini VX6 has clearly been designed as a competitor for the Acer Ferrari netbook, which you can see here - Acer Ferrari (bear in mind that the Acer Ferrari is due to be updated soon - with the AMD Ontario processor in early 2011).

Asus Lamborghini VX6 Fast Netbook
Obviously, by naming their Netbooks after famous sports cars Asus and Acer, the two main netbook makers, are attempting to appeal to the sports car speed freak enthusiast with a fair amount of money to invest in a netbook, as they are not the cheapest Netrbooks on the market. The Acer Ferrari is available in Ferrari red, the Lamborghini however is available in any color as long as it's black or white.

The Lamborghini VX6 is designed as an above-average entry-level mobile computer, as such it makes use of an Atom D dual-core CPU and a high-quality screen. For a netbook screen it is quite large, with a diagonal measurement of 12.1 inches. Most netbooks go for a 10.1 inch screen.

As far as speed is concerned the Asus Lamborgini is based on the Atom D525 CPU, a dual-core with a clock speed of 1.83 GHz. In addition, the chip is combined with the NVIDIA ION 2 graphics processing unit, which is fully capable of playing HD videos and will make full use of the LED-backlit display with a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels.

The Asus Lamborghini also has 2GB of DDR3 memory and a 250GB hard disk, USB 3.0 connectivity (USB 3 is said to be 10 times faster than USB 2), Ethernet, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, and a battery life of up to 6 hours.

It should be said however that the Asus Lamborghini is essentially the same as the Asus Eee PC 1215N with a different and presumably more glamorous design to appeal to the design-conscious, - so if you are looking for a fast netbook without the extra price you will be paying for the Lamborghini branding then check out the EEE PC 1215N

The Asus Lamborghini VX6 is now available for pre-order, at a price of US$ 699, which is not cheap for a netbook. The operating system is Microsoft Windows 7 home Premium which is much better than the Starter version.

Three Cheap Netbooks

Cheap Netbooks - Three of the Cheapest Netbooks

If you are looking for a cheap netbook then you may want to consider these three - one made by Acer and two by Asus - who between them account for around 60% of the netbook market. They are all in the $280 - $300 range. If on the other hand you are looking for cheapt netbooks for under $100 then check out the Menq - cheap netbooks under $100

Asus Eee PC900 Cheap Netbook
The smallest of the three is the ASUS EEEPC900-BK090X with an 8.9-Inch screen (not particularly big but there are smaller screens around)

Technical Details

8.9" Notebook Computer with WSVGA, TFT LCD Display and 1024x600 Pixel Resolution
900 MHz Intel Celeron 353, Intel Mobile Processor
Windows XP Home, 16GB Solid State Disk and 1GB DDR2 Memory

802.11b/g Wireless Connectivity
Built-In Camera
Operating Instructions, Battery, Power Adapter
MMC/SD/SDHC Memory Card Reader, Lightweight Design, Built-In 1.3MP Digital Camera, Built-In Speakers
Built-In Microphone
8.9x6.7x.8 "; 2.18 Lb.
1-yr. Limited Warranty

The ASUS EEEPC900-BK090X has a shockproof design and weighs less than 1kg, this makes it very easy to carry around with you but don't expect blistering performance. Current cost around $295

Next on the list is the Acer Aspire One AOD250-1165 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook
Faster than the EeePC900 but slightly more expensive at around $330 - it is also a bit heavier, but not excessively so. A better netbook and although one of the cheapest netbooks on the market I don't think $330 is particuularly cheap.

An improvement on the previous Acer AOD150, the chassis of the Acer Aspire One AOD250-1165
has been scaled down to be sleeker and lighter than the previous model whilst retaining a near full-size keyboard and the glossy 10.1-inch screen

Reviews tend to be positive

Tips
Uninstall the Google Toolbar and McAfee and other useless software, once you have done that it is pretty fast.
Thinner than D150, very light
Keyboard small but still usable

Touchpad not so good, gesture for scroll doesn't always work .
Screen glossy, but usable. Some people don't like glossy screens - but manufacturers love them ! We can only assume they are cheaper to make.

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-EU1X-BK 10.1-Inch
According to Asus, at less than 2.5lbs, the 1005HA-E is the perfect travel companion. But if you can then get the version with the longer battery life - 4 hours is not long enough. Also the 0.3 webcam is not really good enough if the cam is important to you best go for something with a better cam. Price is around $270.

Fast Netbook New Asus Eee PC1215N

Fast Netbooks - Asus Eee PC 1215N

If you are looking for a fast netbook the you will soon have a new one to consider the Asus Eee PC 1215N. This will certainly be one the fastest netbooks money can buy if not the fastest. It is expected to be available on August 23.

Asus is of course the company that invented the netbook, but it has been losing market share to Acer, maybe the PC 1215N will bring back some of that market share to Asus. Not only is it fast at 1.8 GHz, it also has a 12.1" screen described as "massive", well in some domains 12.1" might be considered massive but on a computer it is barely adequate, but of course this is a netbook so compared to 10" I guess it looks quite big.
Asus Eee PC 1215N Fast Netbook

Another very important feature is that the PC 1215N has Windows 7 Home Premium installed as standard - if you are looking for a netbook do not get one that only has Windows 7 Starter it has serious limitations - go for the Home Premium version from the outset.

Technical Specifications of the Asus Eee PC 1215N

Windows® 7 Home Premium
Next Generation NVIDIA® ION™ discrete graphics = better graphics performance
12.1" 16:9 HD LED-backlit glare-type display
Full HD 1080p video playback on a HDTV or big screen via a HDMI port
USB3.0* can transfer data at speeds up to 10 times faster than USB2.0
Camera cover over the webcam lens to stop people prying
500GB ASUS online WebStorage

The NVIDIA® ION™ discrete graphics processor delivers a "visual experience never before seen on netbooks". It is capable of smooth, crystal-clear playback of HD videos in 1080p on its 12-inch 1366 x 768 HD widescreen display with 16:9 display ratio.

The 1215N has the Intel® Atom™ D525 dual core processor, plus next generation NVIDIA® ION™ discrete graphics processor with NVIDIA® Optimus™ technology for excellent multimedia performance capabilities.

It looks interesting if you are looking for one of the fastest netbooks around - but it ain't particularly cheap at around $650.

If you fancy the idea of the same netbook in a more stylish design then check out the Asus Lamborghini VX6

Samsung NB30 Pro Best Netbook

Best Netbooks - Samsung NB30 and NB30 Pro Netbooks

Samsung make some of the best netbooks around and if you are lookig for a netboook for heavy duty use, then you should consider the Samsung NB30 or NB30 Pro - but, although the two are very similar, the Pro version is a better choice as it runs Windows 7 Professional.

The NB30 weighs just 1.3kg but is surprisingly solid. Samsung designed it with a protective 'S' pattern over the entire outer case, thus creating a robust finish. The matte black finish is a relief from all those shiny black models and it is also spill-proof and doesn't scratch easily.
Samsung has fitted a drop-protected 160GB SATA hard drive with a free-fall sensor, which detects if it is falling and locks the drive and backs up your data at the same time, which is pretty neat ! Although it is only the hard drive that is drop protected.

Samsung has built the NB30 on a very small 10.1in chassis to make it extremely portable but unfortunately the battery sticks out and adds half an inch in height to the back of the netbook.

But at least you get a six-cell battery with up to 11 hours of power, a big bonus.

The keyboard is solid and makes typing quite a pleasant experience on such a small netbook.

The NB30 features Intel's 'Pine Trail' Atom N450 running at 1.66GHz, which is pretty good for everyday tasks but unfortunately only has 1GB of RAM, which can make it slow at times.

The 1,024 x 600 backlit LED display is excellent for such a small netbook and there are no nasty reflections to contend with !

The NB30 features 2 x 1.5W speakers at the bottom front of the unit, which do sound a bit tinny, but the headphone jack lets you take advantage of the high-definition audio playback.

All in all the NB30 is fine but don't expect high-end gaming from it.

It has three USB ports, a 3-in-1 card slot and VGA out, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and an embedded webcam.

Conclusion - The NB30 is one of the best netbooks available it is a solid netbook with long battery life; excellent display; good value for money, but there is only one memory slot and the battery sticks out.

For a better alternative to the NB30 take a look at the Samsung NB30 Pro

It looks the same as the NB30 but it has Windows 7 Professional instead of Windows Starter Pack and is fitted with up to 2GB of memory.

The rest of the specs are the same - a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 10.1 inch, intel GMA 3150 graphics, 160GB hard drive, 1024 x 600 pixel display, VGA webcam, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and 6 cell battery.

The semi-rugged case design is the same as are the spill-resistant keyboard, and the hard drive sensor that parks the HDD spindle if you drop the computer. As the Samsung NB30 was designed for the business user looking for something better than an average netbook, makes sense to have Windows 7 Professional instead of Windows 7 Starter Edition.

The NB30 costs around $340 the NB30 Pro should be available soon for around $519.

Best Netbooks MSI Wind12 U230

MSI Make Some of the Best Netbooks

People often want to know which is the best netbook available. Unfortunately that is not an easy question to answer, for one very good reason - they are changing all the time. What is the best netbook now will probably not be the best netbook in 3 months' time. Computers in general and netbooks in particular are constantly evolving and they quickly become out of date.
Back in November MSI announced the arrival of what is probably one of the best netbooks currently on the market - the Wind12 U230 series. There are two different models of the the MSI Wind12, the U230-033, and the U230-040.

Both have 2GB of DDR2, a 6 cell battery, and Windows 7 Home Premium as standard. The fact that they have Windows 7 Home Premium installed is a very good factor, as the Windows 7 Starter is really not good enough. They also have as standard an ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card and a 1.3 megapixel webcam, HDMI port, and 3 USB 2.0 ports.

The U230-033 features an Athlon Neo MV-40 with a 250GB SATA drive, the U230-040 has an Athlon X2 L335 and a 320GB SATA drive. They both have a 12.1? LCD (at 1366×768) which is on the large side for a netbook, and the new EDS Keyboard with larger keys.

Both systems are now on sale with the U230-033 selling for $429.99, and the faster U230-040 selling for $479.99. MSI U230-040US 12.1-Inch Netbook - 4 Hour Battery Life

The Wind12 is not the cheapest netbook around but then it's not the most expensive either but it is much more powerful than a lot of them.

Best Netbooks Alienware m11x

Best Netbooks - Alienware's Gaming Netbook

Win an Alienware m11x
A bit of a contradiction in terms but Alienware, which is better known for its gaming laptops, has today announced that customers can order its gaming netbook the m11x. To be fair, as far as we know Alienware call it a sub 15" laptop, but the name of netbook seems to be one that has stuck for some reason. The m11x is a small gaming computer with an 11.6-inch screen, NVIDIA GT335M switchable graphics, 6.5 hours of battery life on integrated and "over 2 hours" on gaming mode. It will cost less than $1,000.

You can choose between Core 2 Duo CPUs, up to 8GB of Dual Channel DDR3 memory, Verizon or AT&T mobile broadband and a spinning hard drive or a 256GB Solid state disk. The M11x’s base price of $799 price can easily end up over $2,000 ! Not bad for a netbook ! But it won’t be shipping until March 1, 2010.

There are plenty of connectivity options, 3x USB ports, HDMI-out, a DisplayPort connector, Mini FireWire, VGA, card reader and a slot for a SIM card. In the wireless realm, there's 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and 3G for those with a SIM card.

Alienware are also offering you the chance to win an m11x - just check out their sweepstake at - http://www.alienware.com/microsite/m11x/m11x.aspx

Check out also the MSI Wind12 which is a rival for the title of one of the best netbooks currently available.

Asus Fast Netbook 1201N

Best Netbook Deals - Fastest Netbook Computer - Asus Eee PC 1201N

UPDATE : In July 2010 the Eee PC1201N was chosen by CNET UK as the number two in the top ten netbooks available, with the Samsung N210 as the best, in our opinion however the Eee PC 1201N should have been awarded the number one spot due to the fact that it is sold with Windows 7 Home Premium installed as standard. Netbooks with Windows 7 Starter Edition are at a serious disadvantage - and really cannot be considered as good as netbooks with Windows 7 Home Premium - see here for the reasons why Windows 7 Home Premium

Asus Eee PC1201NIf you're looking for a fast netbook or even what may be the fastest netbook computer available then take a look at the Asus Eee PC 1201N multimedia netbook, which is fitted with a twin-core Intel processor and Nvidia Ion graphics. This makes the 1201N one of the fastest netbooks around along with the Acer Ferrari netbook  and one of the first with decent processing power and the possibility of running complex 3D graphics, you can even run games on it. Amazon are offering a great deal at the moment that has Windows 7 Home Premium loaded - the Windows 7 Starter is really not a good idea for netbooks.

Most netbook computers use an Intel N270 or N280 CPU, but with the 1201N Asus have opted for a dual-core Intel Atom 330 each of which runs at 1.6GHz.

Asus say that the Nvidia Ion graphics will allow you to watch streaming 1080p videos on YouTube "as proficiently as a high-end desktop PC". You can also use it to play games such as Call of Duty 4, modest resolutions and with low detail settings, if you must, but netbooks are not really made for playing games on, even the fastest netbook available.

The screen on the 1210N is a 12.1", LED-backlit 1,366x768-pixel display.

It is sold with 750GB of "hybrid storage" i.e. 250GB internal hard drive and 500GB of online WebStorage, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, a 0.3-megapixel webcam, HDMI video out so you can plug it in to a flat panel TV, and a six-cell, 63Wh - 5 hour battery.

Best Netbooks Asus Eee 1005P

Best Netbooks - Asus Eee PC 1005P or 1005PE Any Good?

Asus Eee PC 1005P and 1005PE

Asus Eee PC 1005P
Looking for one of the best netbooks around ? Then take a close look at the Asus Eee PC 1005P or 1005PE. The P stands for Pinetrail, the latest Atom N450 processor and NM10 chipset code from Intel. And this netbook will be exactly what a lot of people are looking for from a netbook. Unfortunately I can't recommend it because of the fact that it ships with Windows 7 Starter Edition - you really need Windows 7 Home Premium if you don't want to run into problems - see here if you want to know why - Windows 7 Home Premium

Apart from the Windows misgivings, Asus has taken what was already one of the best netbooks available, the Asus 1005HA, and revamped it with the new generation Intel Atom 450 processor and added a few more extras too.

The 1005P has a seashell design which makes it look good too.

What do you get for your money ? Well, a 160GB hard drive (250GB for the 1005PE), a 10-inch, 1,024x600-pixel screen and 802.11n Wi-Fi, 3 USB ports and a D-Sub VGA output. You also get a pretty good keyboard.

Asus Eee PC 1005P
The main plus though is the Intel Atom N450 CPU, which looks likely to replace the N270. The advantage with the N450 is that as designers have fond ways of cramming more stuff on chips, the N450 has the memory controller and the graphics processor on the CPU itself, thereby taking up less space and using around 40% less power, which mean sof course longer battery life.

Asus claim that the 1005P battery will run for 14 hours - but I think we all know what that means - 10 -11 hours seems more feasible.

Another drawback is the glossy screen. What is it with glossy screens ? Nobody likes them yet it's hard to find netbooks and laptops that don't have them these days. Who needs reflections of what's behind you ?

Asus Eee PC 1005PE Specifications
1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 Processor
250GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM) + 500GB Free Web Storage;
1GB DDR2 RAM, 1 SODIMM Slot, 2GB Max
0.3MP Webcam
Chiclet Keyboard;
10.1-Inch Color-Shine 1024X600 WSVGA LCD Display;
802.11 b/g/n; Bluetooth Enabled
Windows 7 Starter Operating System; High Capacity 6 Cell Battery
Size : 10.31" x 7.01" x 1.44"
Weight: 2.8 pounds
